Project Case Study

New Reactor & Associated Infrastructure

"This conceptual engineering project demonstrated our capability to quickly mobilise a multidiscipline team, review the client's input data, prepare design basis documentation, engage the market, and respond with a comprehensive report package."

Scope of Work

Process Consultants were awarded a conceptual engineering scope for a new phenolic resin reactor and its associated infrastructure.  The new facility comprised more than 40 process equipment items, instrumentation and batch control system, civils, structural, electrical and piping works.

The client required a cost estimate with a high level of detail and accordingly provided a basis of estimate to define specific needs.  This included the requirement for full supporting definition and traceability, all assumptions, exclusions, contingencies, allowances, factors, indices, quotes and tools we used.

What We Did

Process Consultants developed the client's conceptual design and prepared documentation such as drawings, sketches, lists, material take-offs to support the cost estimate.

Budget pricing was sought from around around 20 vendors within a 3 week time-frame.

Man hour costs for engineering (with breakdown by discipline for front-end and detailed phases), management, procurement, construction (supervision, non-supervision by discipline) and pre-commissioning / handover were prepared.  An EPCM schedule and basis for local site productivity factors, construction rates and indirect costs were developed by an experienced construction / project engineer.

An experienced and independent peer review assessed the following aspects of the estimate:

Project Outcome

Following successful completion of the cost estimate in 2016, Process Consultants provided further support to this client in 2019, which included a 2 day project framing workshop.
